Overview

Do you like connecting people? Are you passionate about startups? Then this is the role for you!

Kapiti is at an exciting phase of our startup community. We have a meetup group that has organically grown to over 100 members, a range of events run by volunteers, and a network of mentors providing help to several early stage startups.

In order to get to the next level, we need someone who can curate our Kapiti startup community, and help us grow to provide the support that startups need.

The person we are looking for would:

– be friendly and approachable, and be willing to enthusiastically believe in any startup idea

…so if someone said to you back in August 2008 that they reckoned people would be keen to rent out their spare rooms/own rooms/lounge to complete strangers over the internet, you would think yeah, this AirBNB thing has got potential…

– be a connector, so you are not just good at meeting people and maintaining relationships, you also give people a great introduction to others.

…so your most used phrase is “hey, there is someone I reckon you should meet for coffee…”

– be the king (or queen) of follow up

…and love “just checking” on things

You will become the person to know in Kapiti for anyone who wants to know about startups. You will be passionate to learn new things, whether it is how to speak comfortably with developers about server-side languages, or how to write a comms plan and press release. Basically, we would like to find a local version of Sian Simpson.

If you want to know more, contact us. We might even shout you a coffee if you are keen to chat.

About Kapiti Startup and Innovate

We are a group of local startup supporters who are passionate about helping locals succeed with their startup ideas. Many of us have startup experience, and/or are currently working on our own startup project.

Kapiti is a fantastic place to live and play, and we reckon that by getting a thriving startup scene going here we will get successful local companies that make Kapiti an exciting and fun place to work too.

We kicked off our startup community building efforts back in February 2016, and have grown from a handful of people to a network with diverse skills, willing to put them to use for the benefit of startups in Kapiti. We value openness, inclusivity, and opportunity and expect that everyone who connects with us to operate with good intentions.
